Available Asset Classes
Listed Equity
Publicly traded stocks and shares. These are investments in companies listed on stock exchanges. If you connect a brokerage account, your listed equity holdings will be imported automatically with live pricing.
Unlisted Equity
Private company shares and investments that aren't traded on a public exchange. This includes startup investments, private equity, and direct ownership stakes. You'll typically add these manually and update their valuations yourself.
Real Estate
Property investments including residential, commercial, and land. Track purchase price, current valuation, and any associated liabilities like mortgages.
Crypto
Cryptocurrency holdings such as Bitcoin, Ethereum, and other digital assets. Findex can track crypto valuations using live market data.
Commodities
Investments in physical commodities like gold, silver, oil, and other raw materials.
Alternatives
Any investment that doesn't fit neatly into the other categories. This can include hedge funds, collectibles, art, wine, or other non-traditional assets.
Bonds / Debt
Fixed-income investments including government bonds, corporate bonds, and other debt instruments.
Cash
Cash holdings and savings accounts. Useful for tracking liquid funds as part of your overall portfolio and net worth calculation.

Listed vs. Unlisted
Some asset classes can be either listed or unlisted:
Listed assets have a public market price. Findex can automatically fetch and update their valuations using ticker data or provider connections.
Unlisted assets don't have a public price. You'll need to enter and update valuations manually.
When adding an equity asset, you'll be asked to specify whether it's listed or unlisted.
How Asset Classes Affect Your Portfolio
Your asset class determines:
How your portfolio diversification is calculated — The diversification widget on your dashboard groups assets by class.
Which data fields are available — For example, listed equity has a ticker field, while real estate doesn't.
How valuations are updated — Listed assets can sync automatically, while unlisted assets require manual updates.
Tips
Use the right asset class — Choosing the correct class ensures your diversification breakdown is accurate and your assets get the right data fields.
Not sure which class to use? If your investment doesn't fit a specific class, use Alternatives as a catch-all.
