Understanding Portfolio Calculations

Findex automatically calculates key financial metrics to help you understand how your portfolio is performing. This article explains exactly how your net worth, portfolio value, return on investment, and diversification numbers are computed — so you always know what you're looking at.

Portfolio Value

Your portfolio value is the sum of the current values of all your investments. This includes every asset in your portfolio — whether added manually, imported from a provider, or managed through the IR Portal.

Formula:

Portfolio Value = Sum of all asset current values

Every asset's current value is converted into your preferred currency before being added together. Findex uses live forex rates for this conversion.

Net Worth

Your net worth gives you the full picture of your financial position by factoring in what you owe as well as what you own.

Formula:

Net Worth = Total Assets - Total Liabilities

Total assets include all your investments (portfolio value), while total liabilities include any debts, loans, or obligations you've added. For more details, see Understanding Net Worth.

Return on Investment (ROI)

ROI tells you how much your investments have gained or lost relative to what you originally put in. Findex calculates this as a percentage for each individual asset and for your portfolio as a whole.

Formula:

ROI = (Current Value - Invested Amount) / Invested Amount x 100

For example, if you invested 10,000 SEK and your current value is 12,500 SEK, your ROI would be 25%.

A positive ROI means your investment has grown. A negative ROI means it has lost value compared to what you invested.

Diversification

Diversification shows you how your portfolio is spread across different asset classes. Findex breaks this down automatically based on the asset class assigned to each investment.

The available asset classes include:

  • Listed Equity

  • Unlisted Equity

  • Real Estate

  • Crypto

  • Commodities

  • Alternatives

  • Bonds

  • Cash

The diversification breakdown is shown as a percentage of your total portfolio value. This helps you see at a glance whether your investments are concentrated in one area or well-spread.

Currency Conversion

All calculations are performed in your preferred currency, which you can set in Settings > My Profile. When an asset is denominated in a different currency, Findex automatically converts it using current forex rates before including it in your totals.

This means your portfolio value, net worth, and ROI are always displayed in a single, consistent currency.

Tips

  • Keep valuations current — Your calculations are only as accurate as the data behind them. Update manual asset values regularly for the best picture.

  • Check your preferred currency — If your numbers look unexpected, make sure your preferred currency is set correctly in your profile settings.

  • Provider-connected assets update automatically — Assets linked to a bank or brokerage will have their values refreshed without any action on your part.
