Understanding Read-Only Access

When you connect your bank, broker, or other financial provider to Findex, we use something called read-only access. This article explains what that means and why it matters for the safety of your money.

What Is Read-Only Access?

Read-only access means that Findex can view your financial data but cannot take any action on your accounts. Think of it like looking through a window -- you can see what is inside, but you cannot reach in and move anything.

When you link a provider through Settings > Providers & Integrations, Findex retrieves information such as:

  • Account balances

  • Portfolio holdings (stocks, bonds, funds, crypto, etc.)

  • Transaction history

That is it. Findex never gains the ability to move your money, buy or sell assets, or modify your accounts in any way.

What Findex Can and Cannot Do

Findex CanFindex Cannot

View your account balances

Transfer or withdraw money

Display your holdings and positions

Buy or sell stocks, funds, or other assets

Show your transaction history

Open or close accounts

Aggregate data across providers

Change your banking or brokerage settings

How It Works

  1. You connect a provider through the Findex app via Settings > Providers & Integrations

  2. Findex requests read-only access through our secure data aggregation partner, Finsquid

  3. Your provider shares view-only data with Findex -- no write or transaction permissions are granted

  4. Your portfolio updates automatically with the latest balances and holdings

At no point during this process does Findex receive credentials that could be used to make transactions on your behalf.

Tips

  • You can disconnect a provider at any time by visiting Settings > Providers & Integrations and removing the connection.

  • Review your connected providers regularly to make sure only the accounts you want are linked.

  • Read-only access is an industry best practice for portfolio aggregation tools -- your assets remain fully under your control at your bank or broker.

FAQ

Q: Can Findex ever move my money? A: No. Findex only has read-only access. We cannot initiate transfers, trades, or any other transactions.

Q: What happens if I disconnect a provider? A: Findex will no longer receive updates from that provider. Your data from that provider will no longer appear in your portfolio.

Q: Is my bank login information stored by Findex? A: No. Authentication with your bank or broker is handled through our secure partner Finsquid. Findex does not store your banking credentials.
