How to create a custom folder?

Findex automatically generates system folders for your assets and companies, but sometimes you need your own folders to organize documents your way. Custom folders let you build a personal filing structure inside the **Documents** section so everything is exactly where you expect it.

How to Create a Custom Folder

  1. Navigate to Documents from the main sidebar.

  2. In the directory tree on the left, select the parent location where you want your new folder to live. This can be the root level or inside an existing folder.

  3. Click the New Folder button (or right-click within the directory tree and select Create Folder).

  4. Enter a name for your folder. Choose something descriptive, like Tax Returns 2025 or Insurance Policies.

  5. Confirm by clicking Create.

  6. Your new folder appears in the directory tree and is ready for uploads.

Organizing with Nested Folders

You can create folders inside other folders to build a hierarchy that mirrors how you think about your documents. For example:

My Documents
  └── Tax Returns
       ├── 2024
       └── 2025
  └── Insurance
       ├── Property
       └── Health

To nest a folder, simply select an existing folder in the tree first, then create a new folder inside it.

Tips

  • Keep folder names short but descriptive -- this makes the directory tree easier to scan.

  • Plan your folder structure before creating lots of folders. A little upfront thought saves reorganizing later.

  • Use custom folders for documents that span multiple assets or do not belong to a single investment, such as tax summaries or personal ID documents.
