Cap Table & Shareholders

The Cap Table in Findex gives you a clear, up-to-date view of who owns shares in your company and how ownership is distributed. Whether you are managing a handful of founders or a growing list of institutional investors, the Cap Table is your single source of truth for shareholder data.

What is the Cap Table?

A capitalization table (cap table) is a record of all shareholders in a company, including how many shares each person or entity holds and what percentage of the company they own. In Findex, the Cap Table lives inside the Investor Relations Portal and is accessible from the IR sidebar under Cap Table.

Key Concepts

Shareholder Types

Each shareholder in your cap table is assigned a type that describes their investor category:

  • Founder -- original founders or co-founders of the company.

  • Retail -- individual investors who hold shares.

  • Institutional -- organizations, funds, or entities that hold shares.

These types help you quickly filter and understand the composition of your ownership base.

Ownership Percentages

Findex automatically calculates each shareholder's ownership percentage based on their share count relative to the total outstanding shares. When you add, edit, or remove shareholders, percentages update in real time.

Inviting Shareholders

You can invite shareholders to view their own position by sending them an email invitation directly from the Cap Table. Invited shareholders get access to the information you choose to make visible through Shareholder Permissions.

What You Can Do from the Cap Table

  • Add shareholders -- invite new shareholders by email and assign their share count and type.

  • Edit shareholders -- update a shareholder's name, share count, or type at any time.

  • Delete shareholders -- remove a shareholder from the cap table when they are no longer part of the ownership structure.

  • View ownership distribution -- see a breakdown of ownership by shareholder type and percentage.

Tips

  • Keep your cap table current -- update it whenever a share transaction, funding round, or ownership transfer takes place.

  • Use shareholder types consistently so ownership distribution charts are accurate and meaningful.

  • Review the Shareholder Permissions settings to control exactly what information invited shareholders can see.
