How to Connect Accounts with Providers

Connecting your bank or brokerage to Findex is the fastest way to build your portfolio. Once connected, your holdings, account balances, and liabilities are imported automatically — no manual entry needed.

How It Works

Findex partners with Finsquid to securely connect to 50+ banks and brokerages across the Nordics and internationally. When you link a provider, Findex pulls in your financial data using read-only access. That means your accounts stay safe — Findex can never make transactions or changes on your behalf.

Step-by-Step: Connecting a Provider

You can connect accounts from two different places in Findex:

Option 1: From Settings

  1. Navigate to Settings > Providers & Integrations.

  2. Click the Connect Provider button.

Option 2: From Portfolio

  1. Navigate to the Portfolio section in the left sidebar.

  2. Click on either Assets or Liabilities (it doesn't matter which page you start from — all accounts are retrieved at once).

  3. Click the + Add Asset or + Add Liability button in the top right corner.

  4. Select Connect Account under the "Add Assets/Liabilities Automatically" section.

Selecting and Authenticating Your Provider

  1. Browse or search the list of supported providers (e.g., Avanza, Nordea, SEB, Swedbank, Interactive Brokers).

  2. Select your bank or brokerage from the list.

  1. Complete the authentication flow. Depending on your provider, this will involve either BankID verification or entering your bank login credentials.

  1. Grant Findex permission to access your account information.

  2. Once authenticated, Findex will import your accounts and holdings. This usually takes just a few seconds.

Important Security Notes:

  • Findex only has read-only access to your accounts

  • We cannot perform any transactions on your behalf

  • You can revoke access at any time through your Findex settings

  • Your data is encrypted and secure

Selecting What to Track

Once authenticated, you'll see all available items from your connected provider:

  1. Review the list of discovered assets and liabilities, which may include:

    • Listed equities (stocks, funds, ETFs)

    • Pension accounts

    • Savings accounts and cash balances

    • Loans and mortgages

    • Credit card balances

    • Other investment products

  2. Select which items you want to track in your Findex portfolio.

  3. You can choose all items or select specific ones.

  4. Click Save to add the selected items to your portfolio.

Imported items appear in your portfolio with a provider badge, making it easy to tell which assets were added automatically versus manually.

Automatic Updates

Once connected:

  • Values are automatically tracked and updated multiple times throughout the day.

  • Your data will sync regularly to keep values and balances up to date.

  • Updates continue as long as the connection session remains active.

  • Session duration varies by provider:

    • Some banks allow connections lasting weeks

    • Others require reconnection after a few days for security reasons

Maintaining and Managing Connections

You can view and manage your connections at any time:

  • Go to Settings > Providers & Integrations to view:

    • All connected providers

    • Connection status

    • Last sync time

    • Number of included assets

  • When a session expires, Findex will notify you to reconnect.

  • Reconnecting is simple — just repeat the authentication process.

  • When you reconnect, Findex will:

    • Update all previously connected assets and liabilities

    • Fetch any new items from your accounts

    • Maintain your historical data

  • You can disconnect providers if needed.

  • You can connect multiple providers at the same time to consolidate all your accounts in one place.

Tips

  • Use BankID for the smoothest experience — Most Swedish providers support BankID, which makes authentication quick and secure.

  • Connect all your accounts — The more providers you link, the more complete and accurate your portfolio overview becomes.

  • Check connection status regularly — Sessions can expire over time. If that happens, you will see a notification and can reconnect in a few clicks.

  • Check periodically for new providers added to Findex as your financial situation changes.

  • Set up notifications for when connections need to be renewed to ensure your portfolio data stays current.
