How to Reconnect Expired Sessions with Providers

Provider sessions do not last forever. For security reasons, your bank or brokerage may require you to re-authenticate periodically. When a session expires, Findex can no longer sync your data until you reconnect.

Why Do Sessions Expire?

Financial institutions require periodic re-authentication to protect your accounts. This is a security measure enforced by your bank or brokerage, not by Findex. Session lifetimes vary by provider -- some last weeks, others just a few days.

When a session expires:

  • Your existing data remains safe in Findex. Nothing is deleted.

  • Data syncing pauses until you reconnect.

  • You will see a status indicator in Settings > Providers & Integrations showing the connection needs attention.

How to Tell If a Session Has Expired

  1. Go to Settings > Providers & Integrations.

  2. Look at the status column next to each connected provider.

  3. An expired session will show a warning status, indicating reconnection is required.

You may also notice that your portfolio data has not been updated recently. The last sync timestamp next to each provider will tell you when data was last successfully refreshed.

Step-by-Step: Reconnecting a Provider

  1. Navigate to Settings > Providers & Integrations.

  2. Find the provider with the expired session.

  3. Click the Reconnect button next to that provider.

  1. You will be taken through the same authentication flow you used when first connecting -- either BankID verification or your bank login credentials.

  2. Complete the authentication.

  3. Once verified, your session is restored and data syncing will resume automatically.

What Happens After Reconnecting

  • Your provider status will update to connected.

  • A data sync will begin shortly to pull in any updates since the session expired.

  • Your portfolio values and balances will refresh to reflect the latest data.

Tips

  • Check your connections regularly -- A quick visit to Settings > Providers & Integrations helps you catch expired sessions early.

  • Reconnecting is quick -- The process is the same as the original connection and usually takes under a minute.

  • Your data is never lost -- Even when a session expires, all previously imported assets and values remain in your portfolio. Only new updates are paused.
